Amidst Hundreds of Flowers at the Winter Flower Show
Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. -Hans Christian Andersen
Winter Vacation is over. During the Christmas and New Year Celebration, Kolkata was flooded with various events, shows, live performances and special events throughout. Sadly, both the Christmas and New Year Celebration came with a bang and are gone with the wind. The party has officially ended and monotonous life has taken its due course. Through the hectic week, I wanted to go out for some fresh air and a little refreshment. In due time Agri-Horticulture Society has provided the means to escape the busy chaotic life and be in the middle of thousands flowers. Being admits several of rare species of trees, plants and hundreds of blooming flowers specially displayed for the Winter Show, one might presume that he has been permitted to Garden of Eden.
The winter flower show has been initiated in the early 60s and is still continued with the same passion and enthusiasm. The winter flower show is being organised by The Agri-Horticultural Society Of India at Alipore Road opposite to the Command Hospital.
Today was the inauguration day of the show and you can visit the show between 11 am to 7 pm till 7th January 2018. Since, I am not a member of the society; I had to pay a nominal entry fee of ₹ 20 (at the time of my visit). The huge expanse of the garden is well maintained by the society. The main attractions of the winter show are the Chrysanthemum, Roses and Dhalia.
I made an effort to visit the winter and the annual flower festival at Agri-Horticultural Society. This year due to frequent rainfall during the month of December, unfortunately the followers have less bloom. Yet, the flower decorations and displays will surely put you in awe.
The countless varieties of roses, Chrysanthemum and dhalia made me go all click-click. Apart from the flower displays, a small area has been organised where you can buy from various varieties of flowered cactus of orchids.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the show; hope you drop in sometime this weakened. If you are waiting for more varieties of flowers, vegetables and flower display, you can visit during annual flower show. The annual flower show will held 9th and 12th February where people participate from all over West Bengal.
