Waffles are the newest addition to the diversified Kolkata Cuisine and in the past six months many restaurants and food joints have emerged in various parts of Kolkata offering waffles. Waffles, are considered to be originated from Belgium is one of the most common English Breakfast. Waffles are traditionally made with batter or dough heated between iron plates and served with maple syrup. With with passing ages and influence of many culture and country, various varieties of waffles are found. The recent addition of several waffle places at Park Street has caught my attention. Thus, having never tasted a waffle, I’ve decided to drop in at Waffle Wallah.
A sudden urge for dessert and hungry stomach has brought me to Waffle Wallah, which was on my wishlist from a very long time. The place is located just beside Peter Cat or 10 minutes walk from Park Street Metro Station. The small waffle joint, with bright yellow door is sure to catch your eye. Although the place is quite small and hardly can accommodate 15 – 20 people at a time, remains always busy. The decorations and interiors inside was bright yet quirky.
Food: Since, I had almost no idea about the taste of waffles, I opted for classic butter and honey waffles. This joint offers a variety of waffles and tried to indulge the Indian flavor along the waffles.
Butter and Honey Wala Waffle
The crisp outside, yet soft inside and the sweetness of the honey over the hot and buttery waffles just melted my heart away. This is a must try item when visiting Waffle Wallah.
Chicken Keema Wala Waffle
Chicken Keema Wala Waffle. I like the idea that they tried to mix the Indian classic chicken keema with the Belgium classic waffle. I could not wait to try this item. The base was waffle and the base was coated with mayonnaise, that was topped with spicy chicken keema. And cheese was sprinkled over the top. I loved the combination and idea. I hope they bring new combinations in the future like this one.
Ice Cream and Choco Fudge Wala Waffle
We ordered this at the last, to end our visit with a sweet note. But, this was utter disappointment. Based on the menu, this was supposed to be “Ice cream and Choco fudge” waffle. There was no sign of fudge on the waffle. Chocolate sauce was poured over it, with a scoop of ice cream, white powered sugar sprinkled over. Missing the fudge from the “Ice cream and Choco fudge” waffle was not acceptable. The ice cream was more on the icy side rather than the creamy side. I wish they could have used other brand of creamer ice cream to go with the waffle. Further, only vanilla flavor was on the menu, which was little disheartening.
Food Quality: ★★★★☆
Value for money: ★★★★☆
Over all nice joint. I loved the waffles. But, they needs to make sure on the orders. Missing on major ingredients on the waffle was not expected from the outlet. Further, lack of space and siting arrangement was another negative point. The variety of waffles and the combination of Indian flavors with the waffles was spot on. Good Luck to Team Waffle Wallah 👍
