If you haven’t heard about the viral chocolate chai or haven’t seen the pictures yet, you’re sure living under the rocks for the past months!
I am a picky person; specially when it comes to my cup of tea. I don’t like experimenting much with my tea, cos it results in my cranky moods for the next couple of hours. For the past couple of months, my Facebook feed was flooding with pictures of chocolate chai. I was kind of avoiding to try it out myself, the sensational innovation with tea. For the couple of time, I have passed through the area, I have observed youthful crowd circling around the tea stall and some taking selfies with the earthen tea cup. The crowd and enthusiasm of people in the social media has finally compelled me to stop by the tea stall. After all, what could go wrong with a cup of tea and chocolate? right ?
Where to find it:
The tea stall is known as “Tripti Chai” located just in front of Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station Gate number 6, just opposite side of Bhabani Cinema Hall. If you still have confusion or hardship in locating the stall, just look for the crowd taking lots of selfies!
What I found:
The tea stalls, offers about twenty types of tea! This is a new for a small tea vendor offering varieties of tea at affordable prices by the common people. The variety includes chocolate chai, ayurveda chai, tulsi chai, Kesar tea and many more. And the prices ranges from ₹ 5 to ₹50.
The chai are sold on earthen cup, the Kolkata special ! Matir cup aar cha, aha! We ordered two chocolate chai, small and it cost us ₹25 each. Hot tea was served topped with cream, drizzled with Hershey’s syrup and sprinkled with chocolate chips. What I had in my hand was insta-worthy, drool-worthy hot cup of chocolate tea! Just look at those gorgeous picture…
My take on Chocolate Chai:
Tea and Chocolate are two of my most favorites. While combining those, does not make up to my list. The innovation and twist to the pure and humble cup of tea, failed to impress me. I have had chocolate coffee before, but chocolate chai was new for me. The layer of cream and chocolate syrup has suppressed the natural taste of the tea. Moreover, apart from the chocolate syrup and chocolate taste, I could not get any chocolate flavor.
This place sure is a must visit place for trying out their chocolate chai. Sadly, I must admit, it is a one time visit only.
